Description

The image above is a small portion of a patient’s record which consists of periodic diffuse spike waves. There are 4 sessions for this patient and they all consist of this same pattern. The reports for these sessions indicate that the patient is in a state of myoclonic status epilepticus that progressively worsens. The frequency of the spikes start at around 1Hz but at times increases up to 3Hz. There are also facial twitches that coincide with some of the discharges.

Question

1. Would this event be considered a continuous generalized seizure or does the morphology/1Hz frequency conform better to the criteria of being interictal/generalized periodic epileptiform discharges (GPEDs)
