phonological unit -- too small to provide a reasonable
basis for integrating acoustic information.
SYLLABLE:
exhibits a greater stability and a longer time
span. It offers the opportunity to exploit feature
dependencies across a more meaningful span of time and to
exploit more stable temporal characteristics.
