From its inception in 1974, the IEEE Speech Recognition Workshop has been one of the premier events for speech research. The workshop is held biennially and is the principal forum for the discussion of new research directions in speech recognition and understanding technology. This year, the workshop will be held in Santa Barbara, California for the first time. Recent sites have included Arden House ('85, '88, '91) and Snowbird ('93, '95).
This year's workshop offers a comprehensive program on core technology issues such as robustness, efficient decoding, and new paradigms for statistical modeling. System-level issues will also be featured in several special sessions on dialogue systems, voice agent technologies, and applications of speech understanding systems. Approximately 160 participants are expected along with about 40 technical presentations, including daily plenary talks. Due to conference facility constraints, attendance will be limited with priority given to authors presenting papers at the workshop. Potential attendees are highly encouraged to submit a registration form as soon as possible.
The workshop traditionally emphasizes technical interaction amidst an enjoyable social setting. Participants remain on-site in order that a working group atmosphere be preserved. The workshop is famous for informal technical discussions that often extend late into the night. If you seek to develop a comprehensive understanding of the state-of-the-art in speech understanding technology, this is the place to be!
