HW 01: SPEECH PRODUCTION

  1. Design a single lossless tube to have resonances starting at 275 Hz. Plot the frequency response.

  2. Design a digital filter operating at an 8 kHz sample frequency to model the frequency response of this tube.

  3. Using a digital resonator structure, design a digital filter (operating at 8 kHz) that has resonances at 450 Hz, 1200 Hz, and 2100 Hz. Plot the frequency response.

  4. Write a simple speech synthesis program that processes signals through this filter. Try the following excitation signals:

    1. white noise with an RMS value of 750 (assuming 16-bit linear sampling)

    2. periodic impulse train with amplitude 500 and a frequency of 150 Hz

    3. An impulse train whose amplitude increases linearly from 250 to 500 for 0.1 secs, and then decreases linearly to 250 for 0.1 secs.
