HW 02: SPEECH PERCEPTION
- Plot the Mel and Bark scales as a function of normalized frequency.
Superimpose on this plot the frequency response of the
bilinear transform for values of a = 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8, 0.9.
Compare and contrast these plots.
- Generate 500 Hz sinewaves of amplitude 1000, 2000, 4000, 8000, 16000,
and 32000 (assume 16-bit sampling at 16 kHz). Listen to them and discuss
the relationship of amplitude to loudness. Repeat for 50 Hz,
100 Hz, and 5000 Hz.
- For the signals generated in problem 2, add Gaussian white noise
until the tones can no longer be heard. Plot the SNR as a function
of frequency.
