Which platforms will we support? Sun Sparc Solaris (2.5.X, 2.6.X, 2.7.X) Sun x86 Solaris (2.5.X, 2.6.X, 2.7.X) Linux (Redhat 6.1) Windows '9X (indirectly) Windows NT (indirectly)

Why? Hardware support of particular configurations is expensive. Currently, there is more demand for Linux support than Sun Sparc Solaris. Though Windows has a large user base, we don't feel this is a productive environment for state-of-the-art research. Compatibility of compilers is still a real issue.
