Power Factor Correction For Switch Mode Power Supplies,"
ECE 4542: Design II,
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering,
Mississippi State University, Fall 2002:
Our design was successful in the implementation of the SiC Schottky
diode. The advantages discovered by other research teams were further
justified with our redesigned electronic ballast. With the
elimination of reverse recovery current through the switching diode of
the power factor correction circuit, we were able to increase the
operating frequency our circuit. We were also able to have our PFC
circuit operate in continuous conduction mode, which is the desirable
operating mode since it reduces the amount of harmonics returned to
ground. Along with this improved electronic ballast design,
application notes will be written in order to provide a detailed
explanation of the design process in order to promote the use of the
SiC Schottky diode and the operation of continuous conduction mode.
