DOCUMENT TEMPLATES AND SPECIFICATIONS
Learning to conform to format requirements is a very
important part of techical/professional communications
and a significant part of a customer-driven engineering process.
There are, of course, numerous examples of excellent senior design
projects and documents on-line from past semesters. Here are a few of my
favorites:
- J. Wallace, M. Jackson, C. Rice, and J. Bjelobrk,
Temperature Sensor Fabrication in Silicon Carbide,
Spring 2001.
- W. Draper, R. Miller, J. Burkett, and J. Heath,
High Voltage CV Characterization of SiC,
Spring 2001.
- J. Bonds-Dufrene, E. Durrell, W. Evans, and C. Sanders,
Design of Lateral Mosfet in Silicon Carbide,
Fall 2000.
- W. Parker, B. Roberts, J. Tatum, and W.Y. Kwan,
Power Line Carrier Communication System,
Fall 2000.
- M.R. Spencer,
"Automated RF Tuner for RIE Applications",
Spring 2000.
- J. Ivy, L. Purvis, and J. Langford,
"MicroFluidic MEMS",
Spring 2000.
You can use these projects as examples of the quality
expected in terms of presentations, design documents and web sites.
In addition, we have some other important resources:
-
Design Document Examples:
provides detailed examples (under development) for the design document,
including samples from previous design documents.
-
Design Document Guidelines:
provides a detailed specification for the design document,
including all relevant format requirements, font selections,
etc. Deviations from this format must be approved by the instructor.
-
Reference Format:
provides a detailed specification for the proper format
for many different types of references, including reports, URLs,
and data sheets.
-
Powerpoint Tricks: a very nice powerpoint presentation
that demonstrates many of the impressive features of Powerpoint
(in an engineering context).
-
Presentation Outline: an html-based presentation outline.
-
Prototype Web Site: a simple skeleton of a web site that
you can download and use for your team's web site.
